Notarization Support Services
L Translation Services provides professional assistance with notarization through Japan’s Notary Public system. We guide you through each step to ensure the process is smooth, accurate, and stress-free.
- Notarization of Private Documents
We assist you with the entire notarization process, including:
– Reviewing your document in advance
– Booking an appointment with the notary office
– Providing on-site support during your visit
At the notary office, you will confirm that you are signing the document voluntarily and in your personal capacity.
The notary will then certify your signature and verify the document’s authenticity.
Examples of documents we assist with include:
– Power of Attorney
– Affidavit / Declaration
– Letter of Consent
– Letter of Intent
– Acknowledgment of Signature - Affidavit / Sworn Statement
An affidavit (sworn statement) is a formal declaration made under oath and carries legal weight.
In this process:
– You (the affiant) appear before a notary.
– You sign the document under oath.
The notary will remind you that signing a false statement may result in legal penalties.
This procedure strengthens the credibility of your document by confirming your sworn commitment to its truthfulness.
Examples include:
– Statutory Declarations/ Affidavit
– General or Special Powers of Attorney
– Waivers of Rights
Please note: Affidavit / sworn statement notarization generally involves higher fees than standard signature certification.
Booking an Appointment
Before your appointment, the notary will review your document to confirm that it is:
– Lawful
– Complete
– Eligible for notarization
Notarization may be declined if the document:
– Has no legal validity under Japanese law
– Contains unlawful content
– May be used for illegal purposes
Notarial Certificate
In addition to the notary’s seal, a Notarial Certificate will be issued.
This certificate confirms the authenticity of the notarization and may be prepared in Japanese and/or English.
Please note that English certification generally involves higher fees.
Why Notaries in Japan are Trusted
Notary Publics in Japan are appointed by the Ministry of Justice and are typically highly experienced legal professionals, such as former judges, prosecutors, attorneys, or officials from courts and legal affairs bureaus.
There are approximately 500 notaries working in about 300 notary offices nationwide.
In Okinawa, notary offices are located in Naha City and Okinawa City.
